Six centuries of artistic creation
1908-1992 Portugal
Vieira da Silva's work incorporates the most striking artistic experiences of the first half of the century. The representation of space in its structural complexity and the countless possibilities for visual expression that it allows are the subject of constant research in her painting. In "Le Pianiste" (The pianist) the compact, interior space, compartmentalized in multiple structures closely linked to colour, in brown, black, grey, beige and white tones, with small notes in blue, conveys the intimate mood of concentration between the pianist and his piano. The pianist, the piano, the keyboard, the musical score, are depicted through a pictorial language that explores and reinterprets the essential forms of reality, oscillating between figuration and abstraction.
