Six centuries of artistic creation
1926-2018 Portugal
In 1950 Pomar makes his first trip to Paris, a city where he settles from 1963. This work is part of a series of paintings entitled "CRS-SS", painted in Paris during the May 1968 demonstrations. The paintings emerge from the confrontation or encounter between the reality of the boiling Parisian streets and the observation of a 15th century painting by Paolo Ucello depicting the Battle of San Romano. It is also the beginning of a new technique, with acrylic paint, which gives rise to a painting of surfaces of compact, plain colours, in which the abstract forms in strong tones and marked chromatic contrasts stand out as if cut and pasted on dense monochromatic backgrounds of intense visual impact.
