Six centuries of artistic creation
1939- Portugal
A traveller, ethnologist, archaeologist, collector, scholar and artist, José de Guimarães constantly established in his work bridges with cultural references from other horizons. "3 Fétiches" is a foray into the symbolic language of African art and the intense and contrasting red and green colours of Mexican art, which the painter discovers in the course of his travels. As he explains, "art is a language that does not need a translator" and his work "does not fit strict descriptions".
