Six centuries of artistic creation
1931- Portugal
A painting inspired by the Iliad and the Odyssey. It is part of a vast series entitled "Ulisses". For Jorge Pinheiro, "the fact that each work in the Ulysses series is born of reflection on a literary narrative obviously contaminates the pictorial work with that very semantic message". At this point, one of the roots of his work is "the organisation of the arts according to number, proportion, rhythm, grounded in the beauty of the Greek concept of art". This research path for a reflection focused on the countless possibilities of geometry and mathematical calculations, such as the Fibonacci sequence, incorporates in his process of inspiration such diverse areas as classical philosophy, literature, or classical mythology and history. In 1982 the "Ulisses" series was part of the Portuguese representation at the São Paulo Biennial.
