Six centuries of artistic creation
1942-2001 Portugal
Throughout his artistic career, Luís Pinto Coelho developed an interest in the various possibilities of representation around the figurative universe: "My painting belongs unequivocally to the figurative world and I do not recall ever being tempted by abstraction". In an iconography that summons the influence of artists such as Francis Bacon or Jorge Pinheiro, Luís Pinto Coelho places the theme in an indefinable and timeless place and space, depicted in an austere economy of shapes and colours, marked by the contrast of blacks, greys and reds.
