In 2025, novobanco and the Serralves Foundation resume the long partnership that led to the creation of the novobanco Revelação Photography Prize, the most important Contemporary Photography Prize in Portugal.
After the relaunch in 2024 with the new format, the 17th edition of novobanco Revelação, an initiative that aims to encourage the artistic creation of young talents who are dedicated to photography, will start in October 2025. This renewed format, with alternation in the choice between national and foreign artists, reinforces the global character of the Prize and expands its international projection, reflecting the most recent trends that are marking this type of initiatives.
For novobanco, Photography remains one of the strategic pillars of its cultural commitment to society, promoting and sharing cultural activities and heritage across the board, as well as encouraging artistic creation, particularly in the field of contemporary photography.
novobanco Revelação thus reaffirms novobanco's continuous investment in contemporary photography and its active role in supporting artistic creation.
2025 EDITION OF THE NOVOBANCO REVELAÇÃO PRIZE
AWARDS INTERNATIONAL ARTIST
The winning artist will be nominated by the artistic direction of the Serralves Museum – Philippe Vergne, Director of the Serralves Museum, Inês Grosso, chief curator, and Ricardo Nicolau, curator and deputy director – based on a process of rigorous analysis of the most innovative contemporary photographic practices, both in Portugal and internationally. This selection is the result of a thorough evaluation of multiple portfolios of young photographers, previously indicated by artists, curators and leading academics in the field of photography. The guiding criterion privileges originality, conceptual relevance and the ability of the work to dialogue with the great contemporary cultural and social challenges. The alternating choice between national and foreign artists underlines Serralves's mission to present emerging artists from different geographies with equal prominence and visibility.
The winner will be announced in September and the prize will materialise in an exhibition at the Serralves Museum scheduled to open in October 2025, in which the selected artist will present an unprecedented project.
